Progress Report

My north garden at sunset (the fence is to keep out beavers)

My house and front garden in early July

Revisions are taking longer than I’d anticipated. Not surprising, really, considering that I’m rewriting much of the text. At the rate I’m going, it will be well into the fall before I’m finished. Maybe early winter. But I think my novel’s getting better. And that is what matters most.

Since summer is a time for gardening, I’m sandwiching my writing between bouts of gardening and food preserving. Although I sometimes resent the amount of time they require, these activities are important to me. I love the fresh vegetables, the excuse to spend time outside, the gentle exercise. And I enjoy the beauty of my gardens and the surrounding countryside. So, I work outside in the cool of the morning and spend the afternoons at my desk.

15,000 words down. 58,000 words to go.

As if I didn’t already have enough to do, I’ve joined the board of Crime Writers of Canada as the Saskatchewan rep. Even though I don’t like attending meetings (all of which are on Zoom), I look forward to working with other writers from across Canada. Just hope it doesn’t take too much time away from my revisions. And from the reading I like to do in my free time.

This will be my last blog until the end of August. I wish all of you a good summer with warm (not hot!) temperatures and enough rain to make crops and gardens grow.
